About the position

The Human Resources Specialist in the Office of Employee Relations at Gwinnett County Public Schools is responsible for providing expert advice and counsel on employee relations matters, including complaints, grievances, and workplace accommodations. This role involves developing and delivering training related to HR policies and procedures, conducting investigations, and collaborating with school administration on Title IX policies. The specialist will also analyze data to recommend initiatives that enhance the employee work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to inquiries regarding filing complaints of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, and requesting workplace accommodations.
  • Conduct collaborative conversations with school administration related to Title IX policy and procedures.
  • Conduct intake of cases of alleged employee misconduct and complaints of harassment, discrimination, and/or retaliation; determine if allegations are within the scope of Employee Relations and refer as necessary.
  • Serve as the point of contact for workplace accommodations (disability, PWFA, and religious).
  • Identify correlations between behaviors and outcomes to make data-driven recommendations to enhance the employee work environment.
  • Provide documentation and develop responses to litigation and EEOC charges as requested by School Board Attorneys and the Executive Director of Employee Relations.
  • Complete and file ethics reports to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
  • Assist in conducting training on employee relations topics.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation pertaining to employee relations issues.
  • Participate in the review, maintenance, and communication of HR policies and procedures in compliance with laws.
  • Respond to records requests for Employee Relations and collaborate with the records office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, human resources, law, or related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in handling employee relations matters or conflict resolution.
  • Knowledge of human resource management and related laws and policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise and collaborate with supervisors and employees on employee relations issues.
  • Thorough knowledge of state and federal employment laws including EEO, ADA, Title VII, and Title IX.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Experience working in an educational setting.
  • Experience working with outside legal counsel supporting subpoena requests and pulling case file information.
  • Demonstrated experience working with complex data and metrics for reporting or influencing change.
  • Experience in designing and delivering successful professional development.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $43,122 - $70,962 annually.
  • Full-time position with standard hours of 40 per week.
