About the position

The Human Resources Specialist in the Performance Management Department of Veterans Affairs will serve as a Special Assistant to the Policy and Programs Division Chief. This role involves managing various personnel projects, providing guidance on performance management, employee relations, and policy development, while ensuring high levels of customer service to support strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Perform work on a variety of personnel projects from start to finish or on ongoing projects.
  • Provide direct advice and guidance on senior executive performance management planning and execution.
  • Interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and practices to provide advice to officials, supervisors, and employees.
  • Serve as the primary Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Officer, reviewing and analyzing FOIA requests.
  • Assist management officials with processing requests for Reasonable Accommodations (RA) and interpreting regulations.

Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in federal service demonstrating HR management knowledge and principles.
  • Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.
  • Combination of graduate level education and specialized experience to meet total requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience utilizing an automated recruitment system to post position vacancies.
  • Providing consultative advice on recruitment and placement issues.
