About the position

The Senior Regional Human Resource Specialist at the Department of Justice plays a crucial role in supporting corrections professionals by providing expert guidance on human resources management and related issues. This position involves coordinating with various specialists and agencies to resolve complex HR challenges, reviewing and recommending policies, and serving as a subject matter expert to enhance the effectiveness of HR operations within the Bureau of Prisons.

Responsibilities

  • Assist other specialists in the office and serve as a resource for staff on complex human resources management issues.
  • Coordinate assignments with specialists in the office, institutions, Central Office, and other agencies to resolve complicated HR issues.
  • Review, analyze, and recommend changes to existing or proposed HR policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Advise management on the impact of proposed changes to HR policies and practices.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and consultant to staff in the office and field.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the federal service.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal personnel programs to respond to high-level inquiries and communicate complex information.
  • Experience in labor management relations negotiations and advising on labor-related issues.
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, and policies related to human resources.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with recruitment and placement within the federal government.
