About the position

The Human Resources Specialist will support the daily operations of the Office of Human Resources at Calhoun Community College. This role involves processing new hire paperwork, recruiting, onboarding new employees, training, performance management, and maintaining both electronic and paper files. The position is essential for ensuring compliance with HR policies and procedures while fostering a positive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the recruitment and selection process utilizing the online applicant tracking system.
  • Prepare and distribute job announcements and advertisements, maintain applicant database, prepare related correspondence and documents.
  • Process employee paperwork; maintain employee information in Banner and other systems.
  • Set up and maintain personnel and search files; maintain the security and confidentiality of all personnel information, files, and documents.
  • Ensure new employees complete appropriate forms in a timely manner; enter new employee information into the Banner system for payroll purposes.
  • Prepare letters of appointment for new employees.
  • Develop and maintain job descriptions for all positions at the College.
  • Interpret and explain human resources policies, procedures, laws, standards, or regulations.
  • Address employee relations issues, such as harassment allegations or other employee concerns following College and ACCS board policies.
  • Maintain and update employee salary data, including experience and step placement.
  • Work closely with payroll office staff to ensure timely and accurate information processing.
  • Schedule or conduct new employee orientation.
  • Maintain and update human resources documents, such as organizational charts, employee handbooks, or performance evaluation forms.
  • Conduct reference or background checks on job applicants.
  • Confer with management to develop or implement personnel policies or procedures.
  • Inform job applicants of the status of their applications.
  • Work with the Instructional office to ensure faculty are paid appropriately.
  • Process faculty salary roster in Banner.
  • Ensure that necessary employment termination paperwork is completed.
  • Enter requests for purchase orders electronically; process and maintain files of purchase orders.
  • Compile data, complete reports and maintain file of reports.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of three (3) years related work experience is required OR a minimum of two (2) years of postsecondary education from an accredited institution and a minimum of five (5) years related work experience is required.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs for advanced computer work (i.e. Word, Excel, Teams) is required.

Benefits

  • Salary placement on ACCS Salary Schedule E1, Grade 2: $50,680 - $68,169
  • Work hours: Monday through Thursday, 7:45 a.m. - 5:15 p.m.; Friday 7:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.
