About the position

This is clerical, administrative, and customer relations work of some variety and complexity. Work involves the tactful explanation of policies and procedures to applicants and employees. Works under the supervision of the Human Resources Director.

Responsibilities

  • Provides exceptional customer service to team members and candidates.
  • Assists with questions and provides resources as appropriate.
  • Provides administrative support for all HR functions.
  • Assists in the recruitment, screening, testing, documentation and orientation processes for applicants and new employees.
  • Performs reference checks, maintains I-9 records, and completes E-Verify and new hire reporting.
  • Assists in administering the drug testing and required documentation.
  • Participates in the administration and scoring of examinations.
  • Participates in recruiting activities such as career fairs, mock interviews, etc.
  • Types letters, memoranda, reports, requisitions, lists, forms, schedules, and other materials, working from rough drafts, verbal instructions, or established procedures.
  • Maintains a filing system and personnel records; enters data into a computer; processes and maintains personnel information; maintains budgetary account information.
  • Processes requisitions for materials and equipment.
  • Sorts and files a variety of information alphabetically, numerically, chronologically, or by other established classification.
  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with department managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Tracks status of candidates in HRIS and responds with follow-up letters throughout the recruiting process.
  • Assist with new hire onboarding and orientation processes, ensuring an effective transition to City employment.
  • Completes Forms I-9, verifies I-9 documentation and maintains I-9 files.
  • Submits online investigation requests and conducts new-employee background checks.
  • Performs a variety of administrative functions to assist with HR and organizational operations.
  • Schedules meetings and interviews as requested.
  • Makes photocopies; mails, scans and emails documents; and performs other clerical functions.
  • Files documents into appropriate employee files.
  • Assists or prepares correspondence as requested.
  • Prepares and maintains employee files.
  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business management, human resources or related field.
  • Or equivalent experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Must have a basic knowledge of Human Resources principles and laws.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, databases, and various office and HR related software.
  • Must reside within 25 miles of the official city limits.

Nice-to-haves

  • SHRM or HRCI certification preferred.

Benefits

  • Pay Range: $23.38 - $32.91
