About the position

The Human Resources Specialist at Rutgers University is responsible for administering human resources and academic personnel policies affecting the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) employees. This role involves managing HR services, recruitment processes, compliance with contractual agreements, and employee development programs, while collaborating with various departments to support the university's mission and strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain confidential electronic personnel records and databases.
  • Develop, conduct, and monitor recruitment, hire, orientation, and discipline processes in collaboration with SAS departments.
  • Assist with the annual salary increment and compensation processes for SAS faculty and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with faculty and staff contractual agreements and university policies.
  • Recommend, deliver, and monitor employee development programs aligned with SAS and university goals.
  • Conduct periodic staff position classification and review.
  • Assess and conduct employee development initiatives.
  • Provide guidance for performance management and evaluation of staff.
  • Collaborate with HR management to identify critical staff support needs.
  • Review existing policies and procedures and recommend changes as needed.
  • Gather and analyze data, generate reports, and ensure data integrity for HR processes.
  • Prepare documents and analyses for labor negotiations and collective agreements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources management or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Two or more years of experience in a human resources-related position performing employment-related duties.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with HR software and systems such as PeopleSoft and Tableau.
  • Knowledge of labor relations and collective bargaining agreements.
