About the position

The Human Resources Specialist at SSC Services for Education plays a crucial role in supporting the HR function to meet the needs of both the business and its associates. This position involves leading various HR activities, including associate relations, compliance with HR legal requirements, performance monitoring, and recruitment, while ensuring a positive work environment and adherence to company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all Company HR related policies are applied consistently.
  • Coach associates and management through complex and difficult issues.
  • Provide guidance to management on appropriate disciplinary action.
  • Assist with on-site investigations.
  • Oversee MyOpportunity for hourly recruitment and onboarding.
  • Maintain and coordinate associate recognition programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state laws.
  • Run and review HR activity reports regularly.
  • Support internal customer survey and associate engagement survey interpretation/feedback process.
  • Attend department manager meetings to increase HR visibility and implement HR initiatives.
  • Review requests for pay increases or other status changes for internal equity and consistency.
  • Process status change forms.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and present HR related topics and training.
  • Act as the diversity champion by leading diversity activities and goals.
  • Assist in creating Personal Development Plans for associates.
  • Participate in the Annual Performance Appraisal process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in HR or related field strongly preferred.
  • PHR certification is a plus.
  • Three plus years of human resources coordinator or generalist experience preferred.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; advanced skills preferred.
  • Experience responding to inquiries or complaints from customers or regulatory agencies.
  • Strong presentation skills required.
  • Training certification (e.g., Zenger-Miller, Stephen Covey) is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in HR specific training.
  • Knowledge of HR legal requirements and compliance.
