About the position

The Human Resources Specialist at Hearts and Hands of Care is responsible for a variety of complex and technical HR functions, including recruitment, workforce planning, compensation, benefits, and labor relations. This role requires maintaining confidentiality and discretion while managing personnel files, processing employee status changes, and assisting in the hiring process. The specialist will also supervise the receptionist and coordinate special events for staff, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and organizational policies.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain personnel files in compliance with legal requirements.
  • Process employee status changes in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a listing of approved positions and salary grades.
  • Process personnel action forms and ensure proper approvals.
  • Prepare paperwork for payroll and establish personnel files.
  • Coordinate job postings, review resumes, and conduct telephone interviews.
  • Maintain the Employee Handbook with updated resolutions.
  • Troubleshoot and coordinate repairs for telephone and voicemail systems.
  • Provide training for employees on communication systems.
  • Supervise the receptionist and delegate projects as needed.
  • Oversee special events for staff, coordinating committees and schedules.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; some college or technical school coursework preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of job-related experience in human resources or a related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of computer software (Windows 10, XP, Microsoft Office).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • High level of interpersonal skills for handling sensitive situations.
  • Knowledge of office administration procedures.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Attention to detail in composing and proofing materials.
  • Good to excellent spelling, grammar, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent telephone and oral communication skills.
