About the position

The Human Resources Specialist at Bristol Bay Native Association is responsible for implementing effective recruitment and staffing strategies to attract suitable talent for the organization. This role supports various human resources functions, projects, and administrative tasks, working independently under general supervision. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees and agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with hiring supervisors on identifying hiring needs.
  • Research and make recommendations for position descriptions.
  • Screen applications for relevant experience, education, and skills before logging into the internal database and sending to hiring supervisor.
  • Keep applicants informed on hiring status from receipt of application through the interview process and as a reference to future openings if not selected.
  • Identify and implement effective recruitment methods and strategies based on available role, industry standards, and the needs of the organization with job ads, announcements, and outreach methods.
  • Keep the BBNA website and other job postings up to date.
  • Attend and participate in job fairs and recruiting events.
  • Assist with scheduling interviews, completing reference checks, preparing interview questions, and the selection process in accordance with employment laws and regulations and company policies.
  • Assist the Personnel Manager with onboarding coordination and new employee orientation.
  • Maintain and audit electronic and paper documents related to personnel in accordance with applicable employment law.
  • Organize and maintain internal Human Resources Information System database.
  • Respond to requests for information including employment verifications.

Requirements

  • AA Degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field.
  • Comparable work experience in the field may be substituted for degree on a year-to-year basis.
  • Related education and/or experience with employment laws and regulations preferred.
  • Willingness to learn and increase knowledge in this field.
  • Ability to organize around strict timelines and pay strict attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees and agencies.
  • Familiarity with Bristol Bay area, people, and cultures.
  • Computer skills required: ability to enter data, manipulate data, and create reports in Excel database; use of finance accounting software.
