About the position

SMaRT Health & Wellness is seeking a Human Resources Specialist to join our team in Aliso Viejo, California. This part-time position is designed for an individual who is passionate about human resources and has a strong understanding of California's employment laws and regulations. The Human Resources Specialist will play a crucial role in overseeing employee benefits, processing payroll, and ensuring compliance with state regulations. This position is projected to begin in October or November, making it an excellent opportunity for someone looking to make a significant impact in a dynamic healthcare environment. In this role, the Specialist will act as a liaison between employees, executives, benefits brokers, and the accounting department. The responsibilities will include administering and managing employee benefits programs, processing payroll accurately and in compliance with California state tax and wage laws, and ensuring adherence to employment laws and regulations. The Specialist will also support various HR functions, including employee development programs, recruiting, onboarding, offboarding, and assisting with monthly all-staff meetings and executive support tasks. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, along with a minimum of 2 years of experience in HR, particularly in benefits administration and payroll processing. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication abilities are essential for success in this role. The Specialist will be expected to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality while managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and manage employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, and retirement plans, focusing on California-specific regulations.
  • Oversee open enrollment periods, communicate with employees, process changes, and coordinate with benefits brokers.
  • Address and resolve employee benefits inquiries and issues, ensuring compliance with California regulations.
  • Process bi-weekly or monthly payroll, ensuring accuracy and compliance with California state tax and wage laws.
  • Work closely with the accounting department to ensure timely and accurate payroll transactions and reconciliations.
  • Manage payroll-related inquiries from employees, ensuring compliance with California labor laws.
  • Ensure adherence to California employment laws and regulations, including wage and hour laws and labor law postings.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for benefits brokers and external partners, resolving issues and ensuring smooth operations.
  • Collaborate with the accounting team to reconcile payroll and benefits expenses.
  • Assist with employee development programs, including training and performance management initiatives.
  • Support recruiting efforts by coordinating job postings, scheduling interviews, and communicating with candidates.
  • Facilitate onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring compliance with California regulations.
  • Help organize and manage monthly all-staff meetings, including agenda preparation and communication.
  • Provide executive assistance as needed, including scheduling, correspondence, and other administrative support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in HR with a focus on benefits administration, payroll processing, and California compliance.
  • In-depth knowledge of California employment laws and regulations, including wage and hour laws and benefits requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with employees, executives, benefits brokers, and external partners.
  • Proficiency in HRIS and payroll software; experience with ADP is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
