About the position

The Human Resources Specialist position at Prince George's County Government is an administrative role within the Department of Social Services, focusing on supporting the HR Administration Division. The incumbent will handle confidential personnel matters, maintain HR records, assist with payroll functions, and facilitate employee services. This role is essential in ensuring effective HR operations and providing support to both employees and management.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation.
  • Answer frequently asked questions from applicants and employees regarding policies, benefits, and hiring processes.
  • Provide clerical support to the HR department and assist with payroll functions.
  • Assist in planning and executing special events such as benefits enrollment and employee recognition events.
  • Support the HR Manager in managing and completing HR tasks in a timely manner.
  • Process personnel actions including Employee Assistance Program referrals and unemployment claims.
  • Manage onboarding paperwork for new hires and maintain security of personnel records.
  • Draft correspondence for management and prepare reports as needed.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Business/Public Administration, Organizational Development, Human Resources/Personnel Management, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Three years of professional-level experience in Human Resources Management.
  • Strong written, public speaking, and communication skills.
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to show initiative and work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service orientation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a large and high-paced urban/suburban Human Services Agency.
