About the position

The Human Resources Specialist at the University of Utah will focus on developing, planning, and implementing employee relations policies and procedures. This role involves investigating and resolving workplace issues, advising employees on policies, and ensuring compliance with legal standards. The position may be filled at either the Employee Relations Specialist I or II level, depending on the qualifications of the applicant, and will involve a hybrid work model, combining remote and in-office work.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and apply University and internal policies to specific Human Resource issues.
  • Provide advice and consultation to University administrators and staff regarding policies and procedures.
  • Prepare reports and documentation regarding area activities.
  • Analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and processes.
  • Recommend modifications to existing practices and implement changes as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and university laws and regulations regarding Human Resource activities.
  • Assist in departmental objectives by performing special projects and studies as requested by management.
  • Represent the University with government and community agencies.
  • Function as a resource for University staff and administration to address Human Resource questions and problems.
  • Make recommendations regarding actions in areas of specialization.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree (or equivalency) with up to 2 years of directly related work experience or a master's degree (or equivalency).
  • For Employee Relations Specialist II, typically requires a bachelor's degree (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's degree (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.
