About the position

The Human Resources Specialist at Boston Collegiate Charter School serves as the internal HR contact for staff and management, overseeing the employee life cycle, compliance with employment regulations, and coordination of employee benefits. This role is crucial in supporting the school's mission to prepare students for college by ensuring a well-managed and compliant HR function.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the processes to track and manage the employee life cycle, including onboarding, status changes, offboarding, and employment verifications.
  • Prepare staff Letters of Agreement, mid-year amendments, and addendums as needed.
  • Maintain secure electronic record keeping for employee files.
  • Ensure compliance with all employment regulations (federal, state, DESE) and update the Employee Handbook annually.
  • Manage the relationship with external HR consultants (HRK).
  • Coordinate the employee benefits package, including selection, review, open enrollment, and mid-year changes.
  • Facilitate staff leaves coordination between the internal team and the insurance carrier.
  • Handle staff incident reporting and workers compensation claims process.
  • Manage the school's complaint and harassment investigation process.
  • Track teacher licensure and compliance.

Requirements

  • 5+ years experience in Human Resources.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Knowledge of HR best practices and employment laws.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with web-based applicant tracking systems and Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Forms, Slides).
  • HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management capabilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in a Massachusetts Charter School is preferred.
