About the position

The Human Resources Specialist at The Salvation Army is responsible for managing all pre-employment processes, including onboarding new employees and administering employee health and life insurance benefits. This role serves as the main contact for Affordable Care Act compliance and involves collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure effective HR operations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage pre-employment processes including onboarding new employees.
  • Administer employee health and life insurance benefits and ensure timely communication with employees.
  • Serve as the main contact for Affordable Care Act compliance between Command and store/warehouse management.
  • Work with schools and head career fairs to recruit new employees.
  • Utilize iCIMS software for job postings, application reviews, and phone screenings.
  • Compose and follow up on offer letters and calls.
  • Coordinate with the Territorial Registry to verify prospective employees.
  • Initiate background checks through the Sterling website and follow up on results.
  • Set up employee files and input data into the HRIS database.
  • Check incoming emails and faxes for enrollment or cancellation forms and ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain records of all enrollments and cancellations received.
  • Manage Open Enrollment and respond to employee inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Oversee quarterly Pension enrollment process and field inquiries about eligibility and procedures.
  • Verify accuracy of enrollment, termination, and contribution lists with Command personnel.

Requirements

  • SHRM-CP certification or an Associate's Degree in Human Resources or Business preferred.
  • Experience in a busy HR department preferred.
  • Knowledge of health insurance and employee benefits.
  • General knowledge of federal and state employment laws.
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle required.
  • Above average communication skills for effective information presentation and response.
  • Ability to speak and understand English; bilingual preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with experience in Office 365 preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and solve practical problems.
