About the position

The Human Resources Specialist at James Sprunt Community College is responsible for various aspects of human resources management, including recruitment, onboarding, employee records maintenance, and benefits administration. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring a positive employee experience and supports the HR department in implementing programs that enhance employee satisfaction. The position reports directly to the Director of Human Resources and Title IX Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Posting job openings and screening resumes.
  • Coordinating interviews and checking references.
  • Building talent networks to find qualified applicants.
  • Managing the NeoGov portal.
  • Preparing new employee paperwork and conducting orientation sessions.
  • Maintaining accurate employee data, including contact information and employment history.
  • Initiating employee set-up and terminating employee records.
  • Assisting in enrolling employees in benefits plans and managing changes to benefit coverage.
  • Verifying and calculating prior aggregate state service for full-time employees.
  • Calculating and establishing leave and longevity dates.
  • Serving as point of contact for employees regarding leave plans and processing leave-of-absence requests.
  • Collecting payroll information monthly for the payroll process.
  • Serving as backup for part-time payroll processing in the absence of the HR Generalist.
  • Supporting HR programs to improve employee experience.
  • Maintaining security of personal computer access.
  • Performing other professional or job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a college or university with a major in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Some experience working in a confidential office environment.
  • Proven knowledge and skill in the use of advanced features of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through speech and writing.
  • Ability to identify, communicate, and analyze problems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certificate in Human Resources (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP).
  • Bilingual.
  • Knowledge of HR functions and exposure to payroll practices.
  • Familiarity with NeoGov and Colleague.
