About the position

The HR Specialist is responsible for administering and ensuring the smooth operation of employee life cycle processes including onboarding, termination, background and drug screen programs, data entry for employee changes (i.e. promotions), new hire surveys, and performance and development programs. This HR Specialist will be focused on supporting salaried and hourly employees. The HR Specialist is highly organized, communicative, collaborative, able to shift gears at a moment's notice, and enjoys developing and improving processes. The HR Specialist operates in a people-facing role and will provide exceptional customer service. This individual will also have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, excellent attention to detail, possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills, and can prioritize in a fast-paced environment. Total discretion is required with all confidential information. As with all members of the HR Team, this person must demonstrate the values expected of employees at Fortis.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and facilitate the employee onboarding program in partnership with the HR Programs Manager and other key stakeholders.
  • Manage the completion of new hire paperwork, pre-employment screens, and data entry into various systems.
  • Administer new hire surveys, distribute and follow-up on feedback as necessary.
  • Data entry of employee changes, including processing of pay increases, promotions, title changes, team changes, etc. into HRIS systems.
  • Maintain electronic employee files and ensure compliance and security of records.
  • Partner with HR team members to administer and facilitate the annual performance review and individual development planning process in Workday.
  • Address employee inquiries and concerns, provide guidance on HR policies and procedures, and foster a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate employee records in all systems and manage HR documents.
  • Partner with Workday Specialist to develop tools for employee records and process administration.
  • Provide general HR support to other Shared Services teams including reporting, process improvements, and other various needs.
  • Partner with HR team members in various HR projects, such as employee engagement initiatives and process improvement efforts.
  • Manage offboarding process including internal communication, preparing separation paperwork, and processing of separation tasks.
  • Provide backup support to other HR team members and assist in other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources or other relevant degree program, or equivalent work history of a minimum of five years of experience in the HR field.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with high attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Ability to handle highly confidential data with integrity and professionalism.
  • Ability to use sound judgement, use discretion and escalate issues when appropriate.
  • Ability to work independently while being able to collaborate in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to negotiate and resolve issues with diplomacy and persuasiveness.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record in accordance with Fortis policy.

Nice-to-haves

  • Systems experience with Workday or similar HRIS platform.
