About the position

The Human Resources Specialist position at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) involves providing HR-related advice and guidance to professionals, managers, and employees at Lambert St. Louis International Airport. The role is critical in ensuring compliance with HR regulations and policies while supporting the overall mission of safeguarding the American way of life through effective human capital management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Human Resource related advice and guidance to professionals, managers, and employees.
  • Initiate, track, and follow up on cases and studies ensuring timely completion and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide technical interpretations and guidance on Human Resource Management matters such as employee relations, labor relations, payroll and benefits, classification, staffing, and recruitment.
  • Coordinate with Office of Human Capital senior specialists to ensure human capital decisions are consistent with Merit System Principles.
  • Review decision letters regarding appeals and grievances for accuracy prior to delivery.
  • Formulate creative resolutions to problems by applying knowledge of Workers' Compensation and other applicable technical program areas.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National status is required.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to SV-G or GS-11 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector, including applying human resources principles in areas such as Employee Relations, Labor Relations, Staffing, Payroll, and Benefits.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in federal HR processes and regulations.
