About the position

The Human Resources Specialist at the University of Arkansas - Pulaski Technical College plays a crucial role in managing various human resources activities. This position is responsible for recruitment, interviewing, and orientation processes, ensuring that all HR-related tasks are performed efficiently and in compliance with state and federal laws as well as institutional policies. The HR Specialist will oversee personnel-related administrative tasks and provide support across a wide range of HR functions. Reporting directly to the Director of Human Resources, this role requires a high level of initiative, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality in all HR matters. In this position, the HR Specialist will be tasked with answering phones, scheduling appointments, processing and routing mail, and making travel arrangements. Providing excellent customer service to employees, applicants, and visitors is paramount. The specialist will analyze and evaluate employment applications to ensure candidates meet minimum qualifications and participate in pre-employment interview panels to assist with personnel issues. Additionally, the role involves conducting background checks and assisting with the orientation of new employees by explaining policies and procedures and advising them on benefits packages. The HR Specialist will also be responsible for maintaining a current employee bulletin board with all Department of Labor required information, preparing spreadsheets and databases to track employee-related information, and submitting various personnel reports on employee status. This includes tracking new hires, terminations, transfers, promotions, and leave accrual/usage. The specialist will respond to inquiries regarding state and federal policies and provide technical direction for personnel actions entered into HR databases. Other responsibilities include processing motor vehicle reports, posting job positions, and serving as the point of contact for Tuition Waivers/Discounts. The role may also involve creating employee ID badges and performing other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Educational equivalent of a high school diploma.
  • Three years of human resources related experience.
  • Detail-oriented and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
