About the position

The Human Resources Specialist at Plymouth State University plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive HR support across various functions. This generalist position encompasses responsibilities in classification, compensation, compliance, training, employee relations, and policy development. The HR Specialist collaborates with the USNH EHRM Shared Services Model to manage benefits, recruitment, onboarding, and personnel transactions, ensuring effective HR administration throughout the university.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and resolve employee relations issues ranging from informal to complex.
  • Conduct effective, thorough, and objective investigations in conjunction with HR leadership and legal counsel.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to employee management and CBA compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures to resolve concerns.
  • Work closely with supervisors and employees to improve work relationships, morale, and retention.
  • Evaluate issues, patterns, and trends to provide insights for HR solutions and program designs.
  • Serve as HR point of contact, providing guidance on HR policies and best practices.
  • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to supervisors.
  • Identify training needs and develop resources for employee training and development programs.
  • Act as a liaison with USNH Benefits to assist employees with plan access issues and provide general benefit counseling.
  • Coordinate with USNH Benefits on communication plans and wellness initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison to the EHRM HR Shared Services Recruitment, On-Boarding, and Operations teams.
  • Ensure compliance of HR programs with local, state, and federal laws and USNH policies.
  • Develop, implement, and review HR-related training services for employees across the campus.
  • Champion strategic HR initiatives and lead special projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in HR or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Strong understanding of legal requirements related to employee management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with HRIS systems.
  • Certification in HR (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR).
  • Familiarity with employee benefits administration.
