About the position

The Human Resources Specialist at Southeast Louisiana AHEC is responsible for providing administrative support to managers and employees within the Bureau of Family Health. This full-time position involves ensuring accurate processing of HR-related forms, managing employee information, and coordinating hiring processes. The role requires a strong understanding of HR policies and procedures, as well as the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures timely and accurate processing of human resource-related forms and requests.
  • Researches and furnishes employee information to authorized persons as appropriate.
  • Handles human resource-related questions and provides support for Family Medical Leave Act processes.
  • Monitors and tracks personnel action requests and staff compliance with mandatory trainings.
  • Coordinates hiring processes for staff positions, including posting and communication with staffing agencies.
  • Screens and corresponds with applicants, conducts pre-employment assessments and reference checks.
  • Maintains the accuracy and security of HR-related files in accordance with records retention policy.
  • Maintains logs for disciplinary action, training, vacation, and staffing.
  • Coordinates facility functions including employee recognition and holiday-related events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Two years of professional level experience in administrative services.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws preferred.
  • High level of diplomacy, tact, and judgment.
  • Superior organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows environment, especially Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • College degree in Human Resources and/or Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification preferred.
  • Minimum of five years administrative human resources work experience.
  • Prior work experience in a state governmental office environment preferred.
