About the position

The Human Resources Specialist at CEMEX serves as a subject matter expert on HR issues, focusing on attracting, developing, and retaining talent to support the organization's growth. This role involves ensuring compliance with HR policies and collective bargaining agreements, while also managing various HR functions such as recruitment, employee relations, and training.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies and tracks staffing needs of the business and works proactively to fill them via internal and external hiring, succession planning, and retention practices.
  • Collaborates with operations management to maintain positive employee and labor relations, including managing local grievance processes.
  • Manages the hiring process including creation of job descriptions, requisitions, recruiting, selection of candidates, preparation of offers of employment, and conducts new hire orientations.
  • Ensures that candidate backgrounds, education, and references are verified before hiring decisions are made.
  • Conducts exit interviews and monitors all activities related to departing employees.
  • Oversight responsibility for compliance with company rules & policies and government regulations.
  • Investigates employee complaints and/or grievances and allegations of policy and rule violations.
  • Coordinates employee training and development, engagement, and retention activities for assigned operations.
  • Counsels and assists management in employee discipline, improvement plans, and termination hearings/meetings.
  • Adheres to all CEMEX, OSHA, and MSHA rules and regulations at all times and wears proper safety equipment while on plant grounds.
  • Meets or exceeds company safety standards.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years of Human Resources experience.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including presentations before small and large groups.
  • Proficient with a personal computer - Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; SAP HR, Success Factors, and/or Taleo a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of Human Resources Generalist function.
  • Knowledge of Labor Relations fundamentals preferred.
  • Strategic decision-making and tactical human resources experience.
  • Analytical thinking - problem solver that seeks best solution(s).
  • Team player - works well with others and is capable of collaborating across regions & functions.
  • Ethical and high compliance to institutional policies and standards.
  • Strong sense of urgency and customer service.
  • Ability to manage multiple issues at one time.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Labor Relations fundamentals preferred.
