About the position

The Human Resources Specialist will perform a variety of duties in all areas of human resource management, providing guidance, support, and coordination in the application of policies and procedures within the Human Resources Department. This role is essential for ensuring effective HR operations and supporting both employees and administration in various HR functions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to employees and the administration in all areas of human resources.
  • Administer the complete process for new hires.
  • Coordinate the total benefits program for medical, dental, and vision plans.
  • Facilitate worker's compensation, unemployment compensation, retirement plans, and leaves.
  • Post position announcements.
  • Assist with the employee database maintenance and management.
  • Execute annual personnel activities including printing contracts, preparing evaluation and seniority lists, tentative assignments, salary notices and intent letters for employees.
  • Work collaboratively with the Treasurer's Office in all matters related to personnel.
  • Facilitate the maintenance and electronic storage of employee information.
  • Develop, maintain, distribute and update Job Descriptions.
  • Provide support for the employee training programs.
  • Manage the Aesop (EARS) for employee absences and run reports as needed.
  • Manage the certification of van drivers, ensuring all requirements are updated in the SFPS system through ODE.
  • Submit the New Hire Reporting requirement to the State of Ohio.
  • Update the annual life insurance and service credit for employees.
  • Process Exiting Employees - cancel benefits, COBRA, life insurance conversion, exit interviews.
  • Interpret and execute the intent of governing board policy, administrative guidelines and procedures, the collective bargaining agreement CBA and employee handbooks.
  • Stay abreast of legislative statutes, regulations, rules relating to human resources administration, and advise appropriate parties of legal and ODE changes.
  • Plan and manage organizational events such as Opening Day and Staff Appreciation.
  • Assist in updating emergency phone call list for Community Safe.
  • Prepare and submit the necessary statistical reports to the Ohio Department of Education, SERB and other agencies as required.
  • Guide the AESOP system for HCESC employees and run reports as requested.
  • Maintain the HR database for part-time casual employees including background checks, licenses and send Reasonable Assurance letters to employees.
  • Participate in required professional development activities.
  • Attend staff meetings and other meetings as assigned.
  • Exercise good judgment in arriving at decisions and maintain poise and emotional stability in the full range of professional activities.
  • Maintain high standards of ethics, honesty, and integrity in all personal and professional matters.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years' experience in an educational entity working in the Human Resources Office or related experience.
  • High school diploma; higher degree of education from an accredited community college or university preferred.
  • Proficient use of all Microsoft Office applications, with demonstrated expertise with Word, Excel, and Google.
  • Proficient use of HR database systems.
  • Demonstrated excellence in maintaining confidential information.
  • Exemplary interpersonal, organizational, written and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and multitask in a time-sensitive environment.
