About the position

The Human Resources Specialist at Johns Hopkins Hospital plays a crucial role in providing professional human resources support and coordination in key areas such as employee-labor relations, equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, employee training and development, and project management. Reporting directly to the Director of Human Resources, this position is integral in implementing and managing human resources programs and initiatives while addressing human resources-related issues at the departmental level. The specialist serves as a vital liaison between the department and the JHHS Human Resources, ensuring effective communication and resolution of employee relations matters. In the realm of employee labor relations, the specialist acts as a resource for Human Resources, providing support on employee relations issues, policy interpretation, and grievances. A strong knowledge of Human Resources policies, procedures, and practices is essential, along with familiarity with Joint Commission HR standards and HR and payroll processes. The specialist must also possess a working knowledge of applicable Federal and State labor and employment laws and regulations. Responsibilities include disseminating information to staff and management regarding policies and programs, serving as the first point of contact for employee relations issues, and conducting exit interviews to analyze data and recommend appropriate actions to Human Resources. The role also encompasses training and employee development, where the specialist partners with the Training Department and JHHS Human Resources ODT to deliver departmental training initiatives. This includes coordinating training opportunities and facilitating departmental scheduling to enable employee attendance at training sessions. Additionally, the specialist participates in Human Resource team projects to integrate and develop HR processes into business operations, representing the department on human resources-related committees and initiatives. Overall, the Human Resources Specialist is expected to maintain department reports and support Human Resources through IT applications, ensuring a seamless operation within the HR framework of Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a resource and support for Human Resources regarding employee relations issues, policy interpretation, and grievances.
  • Disseminate information and coordinate communication to staff and management about policies and programs such as workplace violence, sexual harassment, and affirmative action.
  • Conduct exit interviews; analyze and trend data, and recommend appropriate actions, plans, and/or programs to Human Resources.
  • Partner with the Training Department and JHHS Human Resources ODT to deliver departmental training and employee development initiatives.
  • Coordinate training opportunities and facilitate departmental scheduling/coverage to enable employee attendance at training and development sessions.
  • Participate in Human Resource team projects to effectively integrate and develop HR processes, programs, and practices into business operations.
  • Represent the department on human resources-related committees and organization-wide human resources initiatives.
  • Maintain department reports; support Human Resources through IT applications such as the HR Acuity program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, human resources, or a related discipline (applicable work experience may substitute for education).
  • At least 5 years of human resource experience, with three years of human resources generalist experience preferred.
  • Experience in a healthcare/customer-intense environment preferred.
  • PHR/SPHR Certification is helpful.
