Our Human Resources Specialist role is pivotal in supporting our employees who design and manufacture world-class products for the defense and aerospace markets. This position is based in San Diego, where our team is committed to excellence and continuous improvement. As a Human Resources Specialist, you will be at the heart of our HR operations, ensuring that our processes run smoothly and efficiently. You will engage with a diverse team of innovators, collaborating to meet the critical needs of our time. In this role, you will manage various HR processes, including benefit administration, recruitment, and leave administration. You will be responsible for conducting new hire orientations, coordinating employee training programs, and maintaining electronic employee records. Your ability to generate reports and utilize HRIS, Excel, and PowerPoint will be essential in streamlining our operations. You will also play a key role in event management, organizing new employee orientations and employee activities, and ensuring that all HR supplies are well-coordinated. As a relationship manager, you will assist employees with inquiries regarding HR policies and procedures, support annual reviews, and maintain compliance postings across all Defense Systems locations. Your interpersonal skills will be crucial in managing sensitive situations with professionalism and tact. We are looking for someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of adapting to changing priorities while maintaining a positive and engaging atmosphere within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Execution of transactional core HR processes such as benefit administration transactions, recruitment, and leave administration.
  • Responsible for New Hire Orientation, including advance planning, conducting the program, and post-induction process management.
  • Manage recruitment activities, including requisition report generation and assisting with interview scheduling.
  • Complete documentation for external programs and services, such as unemployment claims and eVerify processing.
  • Maintain and update electronic employee records and databases.
  • Organize and coordinate employee training programs, including managing California Employee Training Panel rosters.
  • Generate reports from existing databases using HRIS, Excel, PowerPoint, and other technology applications.
  • Coordinate and conduct new employee orientation, including coordinating speakers and preparing onboarding materials.
  • Prepare and process offboarding materials and conduct exit interviews efficiently.
  • Schedule meetings and interviews as requested, including interview travel arrangements.
  • Lead the Employee Activities Committee and coordinate events such as service awards and annual benefits presentations.
  • Answer employee questions and provide administrative support for the HR department.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with a minimum of two years' experience in an HR department.
  • Broad background in various HR disciplines including training, employee engagement, pay & benefits, talent acquisition, and HR systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems, with the ability to learn quickly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and excellent time management abilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree in a related field.
  • Four years of experience in an HR department.
  • Experience with Oracle HCM system.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact and professionalism.
