About the position

The Human Resource Specialist at West Liberty Foods will play a crucial role in supporting various HR functions, including employee relations, recruiting, onboarding, training, and benefits administration. This position requires a self-driven individual who can independently identify and address the needs of the organization while collaborating closely with operations to ensure timely support. The role involves a mix of administrative tasks and direct interaction with team members, making it essential for the specialist to possess strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support for internal/external customers by answering incoming calls to the HR department and directing them appropriately.
  • Ensure that all needed supplies are inventoried, ordered, and stocked regularly.
  • Assist in facilitating the functions of the Employee Market, including ordering, stocking, servicing, and payroll deductions.
  • Manage activities centered around the recruiting process, including auditing and data entry for HR systems.
  • Assist team members with questions regarding pay, benefits, and other HR-related inquiries.
  • Handle verification of employment for outside inquiries.
  • Administer benefits and leave, acting as the first line of contact for team members regarding benefits enrollment and inquiries.
  • Assist in resolving employee relations issues and maintain personnel files.
  • Serve as a backup to other Human Resource positions and as a translator for meetings and investigations.
  • Communicate with operation leaders regarding the progress and development of new hires during their first 90 days of employment.
  • Maintain spreadsheets reflecting the completion status of all documents related to new hire learning and development.
  • Facilitate and keep records of compliance learning opportunities for all team members in operation areas.
  • Organize and lead facility tours for new hires, potential hires, and visitors.
  • Lead New Hire Orientation presentations, both in-person and virtually, after developing proficiency in classroom facilitation.
  • Organize information necessary for successful audits and meet auditor expectations.
  • Lead and facilitate learning opportunities for groups of various sizes.
  • Communicate ideas and information effectively in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, and Polish.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize competing business needs.
  • Suggest appropriate training methods for individuals and evaluate training progress for new hires.
  • Drive continual improvement in quality, productivity, and efficiency.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish/Polish) is preferred.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work.
  • Proficiency with grammar and composition for document preparation and review.
  • Basic math skills and understanding of accounting principles for market orders.
  • Ability to work independently on multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Computer experience is required, with advanced knowledge of Google Suite and Microsoft platforms being a plus.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, and overtime as needed.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing demands.
