About the position

The Human Resources Technician 2 position at the State of Minnesota is a full-time role within the Public Safety Department, specifically in the Human Resources Transactions unit. This position is designed to provide technical personnel support to the Human Resources Management Division staff and Department of Public Safety managers, supervisors, and employees. The technician will be responsible for processing personnel transactions in the State's personnel/payroll systems (SEMA4), entering background checks, and offering support and assistance to HR staff and customers on various personnel issues and processing tasks. The role is hybrid, allowing for telework based on the business needs of the unit and at the discretion of the supervisor. In this position, the technician will engage in a variety of tasks that require a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. The technician will be expected to handle, prioritize, and complete a significant volume of HR data correctly and in a timely manner. The role also involves customer service responsibilities, requiring the technician to provide prompt, courteous, and accurate information to customers over the phone or through written correspondence. The technician will work collaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, contributing to an inclusive work environment. Responsibilities

  • Process personnel transactions in the State's personnel/payroll systems (SEMA4).
  • Enter background checks and provide support to HR staff and customers on personnel issues.
  • Maintain, enter, and track personnel transactions through PeopleSoft or similar HR information systems.
  • Research, run reports, and analyze data using Microsoft Office Suite products.
  • Provide prompt, courteous, and accurate information to customers over the phone or in writing.
  • Handle, prioritize, and complete a variety of HR data accurately and timely.
  • Work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of paraprofessional experience in Human Resources.
  • Working knowledge of personnel tracking software such as PeopleSoft.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite products.
  • Analytical skills to review data and identify errors.
  • Math skills sufficient for basic calculations and formulas.
  • Customer service experience to provide accurate information with tact and diplomacy.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a significant volume of HR data.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using SEMA4.
  • Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, rules, and laws affecting Human Resources.
  • Experience with HRIS systems such as PeopleSoft and/or web-based tracking systems.
  • Experience using Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and address problems with confidentiality and integrity.
