About the position

The Human Resources Technician VI position at the Hawaiʻi State Department of Education is responsible for managing employee records and transactions. This role involves screening applications, advising departments on hiring methods, and recommending suitable candidates for various positions. The technician will also handle correspondence related to application rejections and provide insights on filling vacancies effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Screens applications for assigned classes to determine whether education and work experience meet minimum qualifications for class of work being sought.
  • Accepts/rejects applications.
  • Writes letters/reports to explain/justify rejections.
  • Advises line departments/program staff on available methods of filling positions.
  • Recommends most suitable method based on time factors, availability of lists, past history, etc.
  • Recommends the use of incentives such as hiring above the minimum, shortage differentials and the use of lower-level classes to fill vacancies.

Requirements

  • Progressively responsible general office clerical experience.
  • Experience in an office where the work required knowledge and application of pertinent personnel rules, regulations, procedures and program requirements.
  • Demonstrated supervisory aptitude through successful completion of assignments involving supervisory responsibilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Successful completion of a clerical curriculum at an accredited business or technical school.
  • Successful completion of an academic year in an accredited college or university above the high school level.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university.
