About the position

The Human Resources Training and Development Specialist at Illinois Action for Children (IAFC) plays a crucial role in enhancing employee performance through the design, development, and evaluation of training programs across the organization. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Training and Development, this position requires a proactive approach to conducting needs analyses to identify training requirements and improve organizational productivity. The specialist will collaborate with management to understand specific work situations that necessitate employee training, particularly in adapting to changes in policies, procedures, regulations, and technologies. In addition to conducting training sessions for new and current employees on various topics such as orientation, customer service, and policy updates, the specialist will also be responsible for developing training materials and maintaining the Learning Management System (LMS). This includes data entry of courses, performance management documents, and generating reports to track training effectiveness. The role demands excellent communication and presentation skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a multi-tasking environment. The Training and Development Specialist will also assist employees in their career development by providing guidance on advancement opportunities and directing them to external educational resources. Continuous quality improvement is a core capability expected from this role, ensuring that all training initiatives align with the organization's standards and contribute to a culture of accountability and customer focus. The position is hybrid, requiring local travel and flexibility in working hours to accommodate training sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in needs analysis studies to determine training and performance needs within the organization.
  • Confer with management to understand specific work situations requiring employee training.
  • Recommend tools, resources, and training to improve organizational productivity.
  • Assist in developing training materials and maintain teaching aids such as manuals and multimedia visual aids.
  • Conduct training sessions covering topics such as orientation and customer service for new and current employees.
  • Update training materials for accuracy and to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Answer employees' questions regarding career advancement and required training or education.
  • Provide observations and suggestions for improvement regarding training effectiveness.
  • Maintain the Learning Management System (LMS) and provide training to new management on its use.
  • Execute workplace core capabilities of accountability, customer focus, and continuous quality improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Communications, Training and Development, or a business-related field.
  • Two to three years of training or organizational development experience in needs assessment, survey analysis, and developing training programs.
  • Prior experience with Learning Management Systems and course design is preferred.
  • Access to reliable personal transportation, valid driver's license, and insurance.
