About the position

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is a global leader in higher education, known for its innovative teaching, research, and public service. The UNC School of Medicine aims to improve the health and well-being of North Carolinians through excellence in patient care, education, and research. The position supports the North Carolina Psychiatry Access Line (NC-PAL) Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) team, which is a statewide psychiatric access program. This role involves working with a multidisciplinary team to provide outreach, education, and support for families of children with IDD. The position is hybrid, allowing for flexible work arrangements, and is part-time, approximately 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct needs assessment with patients and families to identify needed resources.
  • Communicate identified needs with practice staff.
  • Build and provide tailored support for pilot practices.
  • Provide training for practice staff on family navigation, service systems, and community resources.
  • Initiate and respond to contact from families and community service providers.
  • Receive and track referrals and outcomes of support provided.
  • Demonstrate accurate, clear, professional, and timely communication.
  • Engage in regularly scheduled team meetings, peer support, and supervision.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a related Human Services discipline.
  • Two years of experience related to the area of assignment, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Lived experience as a primary caregiver for a child with IDD.
  • Willingness to obtain Family Peer Specialist Certification.
  • Residence in or close proximity to New Hanover County.

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams, and Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Spanish speaking.
  • Demonstration of personal and professional integrity.
