About the position

The Human Services Trainer (Mobile/Remote) position at the Virginia Department of Social Services is responsible for delivering foundational and ongoing training to Human Services Staff and community partners. This role focuses on maintaining a positive learning environment, evaluating training effectiveness, and ensuring that training content aligns with current policies and practices. The position requires regular overnight travel within Virginia and is limited to 1500 hours in a 12-month period, averaging no more than 29 hours a week.

Responsibilities

• Deliver foundational and ongoing training to Human Services Staff and community partners.
• Maintain a positive learning environment during training sessions.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of training through designated assessment strategies.
• Recommend changes and improvements in training content to the curriculum developer as needed.
• Provide high-quality training and assistance to class participants.
• Maintain excellent working relationships with VDSS management, staff, and Regional Training Office staff.
• Stay abreast of VDSS related policy, guidance, and innovations in local agency practices and trends.

Requirements

• Experience in professional training or instruction.
• Considerable knowledge of Family Services, including Child Protective Services, Prevention and In-Home Services, or Permanency (Foster Care & Adoption).
• Knowledge of adult training methodologies and adult learning theory.
• Skill in using Microsoft Suite products and video conferencing platforms.
• Demonstrated skill in analyzing training results and needs based on assessment strategies.
• Ability to prepare, deliver, and evaluate engaging training programs.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Nice-to-haves

• Considerable experience in professional stand-up training or instruction and virtual instruction in a Human Service or Social Service setting.
• Experience in developing or revising training curriculum.
