About the position

The Humanities Business Manager at the College of Arts and Sciences, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is responsible for overseeing the financial, HR, and administrative operations of the Humanities Shared Services unit. This role involves close collaboration with department heads and the Director of the Tennessee Humanities Center, ensuring compliance with financial policies and managing departmental budgets. The position also includes supervisory responsibilities for four staff members, making it crucial for effective management and strategic planning within the departments of Classics, Religious Studies, and Philosophy.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the Humanities Shared Services unit.
  • Ensure policy compliance of financial transactions.
  • Supervise, review, and approve the work of four staff members.
  • Prepare annual budgets for departments and manage departmental budgets throughout the fiscal year.
  • Provide budget projections and data analysis for strategic planning and resource allocation.
  • Review and approve financial and personnel transactions for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Review and approve biweekly and monthly time for departmental staff.
  • Serve as the primary resource for matters related to University financial policies and procedures.
  • Represent the departments in meetings of college business managers and budget hearings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree plus 3 years of experience in finance and administrative management with supervisory responsibilities.
  • OR Associate's Degree plus 7 years of experience in finance and administrative management with supervisory responsibilities.
  • OR 11 years of experience in finance and administrative management with supervisory responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles.
  • Financial, accounting, and budgetary skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Demonstrated creative problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work under pressure with deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to supervise others.
  • Ability to interpret data and present results.

Nice-to-haves

  • Three to five years of higher education experience, preferably in an academic department.
  • Knowledge of UT fiscal and human resource policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of sponsored project policies and procedures/research administration.
  • Knowledge of IRIS.
