About the position

The Hunting Department Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the hunting department, ensuring compliance with company standards and state and federal laws regarding firearms. This role includes managing staff, training employees, and maintaining inventory accuracy while addressing employee concerns and ensuring a clean and organized department.

Responsibilities

  • Interview and hire employees
  • Manage and train staff per company guidelines, including product and sales training
  • Address employee complaints
  • Discipline, coach and separate employees
  • Determine and input employees' schedules in time and attendance system
  • Manage employees' exceptions in time and attendance system and complete payroll
  • Plan, determine and distribute work to employees
  • Evaluate employees' efficiency and productivity
  • Perform opening and closing duties per company standards
  • Research inventory discrepancies
  • Manage negative inventory report and adjust negatives weekly
  • Supervise merchandising of department while maintaining company standards
  • Run price change reports daily and ensure completion by deadlines
  • Ensure the department is clean, faced, and straight at all times
  • Work closely with buying staff to recognize sales trends and customer needs
  • Ensure all firearms are received, transferred, and disposed of in compliance with laws and company procedures
  • Ensure all Hunting Department staff are trained and compliant with firearms handling
  • Communicate with the Compliance Department for firearm and ammunition compliance
  • Timely respond to ATF firearm trace requests

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and math skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Extremely detail-oriented
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well in a team setting
  • High school diploma or equivalent or 2+ years of retail and/or management experience
