About the position

The HV Equipment Team Lead (Systems Engineering) role at GE Vernova involves leading a dynamic team of engineers focused on high voltage direct current (HVDC) systems. The successful candidate will interpret customer requirements, design cost-effective solutions, and ensure the delivery of high-quality engineering products. This position emphasizes safety, team management, and the development of standard equipment solutions while fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a safe working environment for the team by identifying and evaluating EHS risks and implementing safety measures.
  • Lead and manage the HV Equipment team in the USA.
  • Ensure the delivery of the HV Equipment team's scope aligns with the plan and budget.
  • Maintain the quality of the team's deliverables, including documentation and engineering products.
  • Plan the team's scope of work and set priorities accordingly.
  • Create equipment specifications based on standard solutions for various HVDC equipment.
  • Develop and maintain standard HV Equipment solutions that comply with international standards and legislation.
  • Review and approve key technical specifications and documentation for HV Equipment.
  • Implement best practice processes and tools for the HV Equipment team's work and audit compliance.
  • Promote a Lean approach within the team to achieve cost and time savings.
  • Oversee recruitment, development, and performance reviews for team members.
  • Capture, implement, and validate tender and project requirements effectively.
  • Communicate technical issues throughout the organization.
  • Develop and maintain KPIs for the team.
  • Lead the team in solving challenging technical issues and ensure alignment with customer specifications during tender and project stages.
  • Engage proactively with other engineering departments for product definition.
  • Foster an environment of knowledge sharing and mentoring within the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Power System Engineering.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in the electrical transmission industry.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with risk assessments.
  • Ability to travel 20% of the time internationally and domestically.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of system tools like PSCAD.
  • Understanding of insulation coordination and HVDC equipment characteristics.
  • Expertise in computer mathematical and simulation tools for design activities.
  • Strong knowledge of North American standards and guidelines for high voltage substations.
  • Professional Engineering license and willingness to review and seal work.
  • Strong knowledge of contract and project management, EPC, or EEP project execution.
  • Understanding of civil engineering and substation structural design requirements.
  • Experience with HVDC projects and technology.
  • Field-testing and commissioning experience with safe work habits.
  • Demonstrated electrical and mechanical troubleshooting capability.
  • Excellent personal computer skills, including programming and design automation, familiarity with AutoCAD.
