About the position

Prysmian Group is seeking a highly skilled HV Lab Test Engineer to join our team in Abbeville, SC. As the world leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry, Prysmian manufactures thousands of miles of underground and submarine cables and systems for power transmission and distribution. The HV Lab Test Engineer will play a crucial role in managing the safe performance of our high voltage electrical production test laboratory. This position requires a deep understanding of customer and industry standards, as well as the ability to develop test equipment and procedures that meet these standards. The engineer will spend a significant portion of their time (90%) generating written reports and entering and manipulating test data using SAP and Excel spreadsheets. In this role, the engineer will oversee all technical aspects of the high voltage electrical production test laboratory, ensuring that all operations are conducted safely and efficiently. Responsibilities include fault detection and troubleshooting, writing new procedures for equipment operation and safety, and ensuring the validity and completeness of test data. The engineer will also be responsible for training new personnel on the use of EHV equipment and safety protocols, as well as managing special tests such as lightning impulse tests, structural stability tests, and IEC water penetration tests. Collaboration with affiliates and outside experts will be essential for troubleshooting and system improvements, making effective communication a key skill for success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Oversight of all technical aspects of the high voltage electrical production test laboratory.
  • Perform PD detection, fault detection, and troubleshooting.
  • Write new procedures for equipment operation and safety procedures.
  • Ensure the validity and completeness of test data.
  • Train new personnel on the use of EHV equipment and safety protocols.
  • Engage in dialogue with affiliates and outside experts for troubleshooting and system improvements.
  • Manage special tests such as lightning impulse tests, structural stability tests, IEC water penetration tests, and dc superimposed impulse tests.
  • Specify test bushings for dc testing.
  • Assist in all high voltage experimental trials.
