About the position

The HVAC Commissioning Project Engineer at FST Technical Services is responsible for overseeing the delivery and execution of professional services related to mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and associated systems in building projects. This role involves ensuring that equipment is designed, installed, and functionally tested to meet client requirements and design intent, contributing to reliable and energy-efficient building operations.

Responsibilities

  • Complete office assignments and manage time and expenses.
  • Conduct in-field installation validation and prepare field observation reports.
  • Perform functional performance testing and document results.
  • Attend meetings and maintain documentation related to projects.
  • Conduct on-site and factory witness testing.
  • Review submittals and evaluate design documentation.
  • Execute target billable hours and manage tasks within budgeted time.
  • Lead commissioning meetings and assist construction teams with technical issues.
  • Maintain positive relations with clients on assigned projects.
  • Support the team leader in coordinating with other project engineers and senior project engineers.
  • Train and mentor team members on documentation, field procedures, and equipment usage.
  • Participate in company-wide safety and training programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in HVACR, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, construction management, or an Associate's degree in engineering technology or related trade school.
  • 5+ years of experience in maintenance, construction, or engineering controls, or 1+ years in the commissioning industry.
  • 3+ years of experience managing the interconnectivity of building equipment such as pumps, fans, motors, air ventilation, chillers, boilers, and building automation systems.
  • Knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, bid processes, and ancillary industry documents.
  • Ability to solve problems independently and in a team environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Adaptability to varying indoor and outdoor working conditions.
  • Physical fitness to lift at least 30 pounds and climb ladders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Trade association involvement.
  • EIT, ACP, CEM or similar certification.
  • OSHA 10 or other safe workplace certifications.
  • Familiarity with building information modeling.
