Edo's approach involves empowering utilities and built environment leaders through a partnership model that fosters rapid innovation towards a future grid. The company is currently seeking an HVAC Controls Engineer to join its Research and Development (R&D) Team in San Francisco. This role involves developing new HVAC control logic to enhance energy efficiency and manage electrical load in commercial and industrial buildings. The HVAC Controls Engineer will work on software-based energy management tools and services that transform energy consumption and production in buildings, while also improving communication with utilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and optimize HVAC control sequences for existing buildings, focusing on shifting and shedding electrical load and improving energy efficiency.
  • Develop control sequences that co-optimize electricity use in buildings with on-site distributed energy resources (DERs) like rooftop photovoltaics (PV), batteries, and electric vehicle charging systems.
  • Evaluate the performance of control logic by developing custom time series data analysis tools in Python.
  • Collaborate with Edo's software development team to deploy and evaluate machine learning-based control algorithms.
  • Collaborate with Edo's engineering team to remotely evaluate HVAC system performance.
  • Present results to internal and external teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (architectural, mechanical, operations research or related), computer science, physics, or closely related quantitative field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with designing HVAC controls, monitoring-based commissioning (MBCx), or building energy engineering.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and optimizing HVAC control sequences to improve energy efficiency and enhance indoor air quality.
  • Three or more years of experience with programming in Python, Matlab, R or similar.
  • Three or more years of experience with time series data analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
