About the position

The HVAC/Energy Management System Tech II position at Tri-County Technical College is focused on supporting the physical plant operations by ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of HVAC systems and energy management controls across multiple campuses. The role involves maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC systems, as well as collaboration with project management teams on capital projects. The successful candidate will contribute to a supportive educational environment while ensuring optimal energy use and comfort in campus facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the efficient & reliable operation & maintenance of the campus energy management control system, primarily controlling HVAC systems and other elements such as lighting and occupancy.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs various components of the energy management control system, including variable frequency drives and motorized valve actuators.
  • Manages third-party vendors for the installation, replacement, repair, and preventative maintenance of control systems.
  • Captures data from the control system to provide reports on HVAC system operation and performance.
  • Responsible for the efficient & reliable operation & maintenance of campus HVAC systems, including heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and exhaust systems.
  • Performs and manages third parties on the installation, replacement, repair, and preventative maintenance of HVAC systems.
  • Collaborates with the project management team on capital projects, providing expertise and quality control.
  • Makes recommendations for HVAC and controls systems replacement, repairs, and upgrades on non-capital projects.
  • Develops and maintains job skills necessary for physical plant team technicians in safety, equipment operation, and cross-functional training.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and experience in the installation and maintenance of HVAC systems or in the operation and maintenance of HVAC mechanical and building control systems.
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain certification for the purchase of Freon.
  • Knowledge and experience in logic-based systems/building controls.
  • Knowledge of chiller plant systems.
  • Ability to operate lifts and motorized equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs above head.
  • Ability to squat, reach, grasp, bend, crawl, stoop, climb, and work in elevated and/or confined environments.
  • Ability to work in all types of weather day or night, 365 days of the year.
  • Ability to travel to multiple campuses and occasionally for training.
