About the position

The position involves assisting in the general maintenance, installation, and repair of HVACR systems and related equipment within CHI Memorial Hospital. The role is crucial for ensuring the operational efficiency of the hospital's facilities, contributing to a safe and comfortable environment for patients and staff. The technician will work under the supervision of the Facilities Supervisor and is expected to maintain a professional attitude while performing various maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in general maintenance and installation of HVACR systems and equipment.
  • Complete assigned work orders and preventive maintenance tasks in a timely manner.
  • Identify and report any malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor immediately.
  • Work to reduce maintenance and utility costs through improved operational procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Maintain a professional attitude toward patients, visitors, and staff at all times.
  • Adjust work schedule or shift to meet department staffing needs.
  • Work overtime only with prior approval or when requested by the supervisor.
  • Schedule all vacation and personal holidays with prior supervisory approval.
  • Perform other duties as required by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Trade School education is helpful.
  • Certificate of HVACR technical education or equivalent experience in the field.
  • At least 3 years of commercial or industrial HVACR experience.
  • At least 1 year of practical experience in an accredited hospital Facilities department.
  • HVACR certifications and EPA certification required.
  • Ability to perform HVACR as well as minor electrical and mechanical repairs.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Some minor computer skills (work order systems) are required.
  • Good communication skills are necessary.
  • General knowledge or willingness to learn about equipment associated with hospital support.
