About the position

The HVAC Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on HVAC and refrigeration system components according to a prescribed set of instructions. This role involves responding to service calls, conducting assessments, and making adjustments to equipment to resolve occupant comfort issues. The work is performed according to established guidelines and includes inspecting and replacing faulty or worn parts such as compressors, condensers, expansion valves, thermostats, and filters. The mechanic will also test equipment functionality upon completion of repairs. In addition to routine maintenance, the HVAC Maintenance Mechanic may assist higher-level tradespersons or supervisors with more complex maintenance, installations, or repairs. The position requires independent work, with tasks being checked upon completion for adherence to guidelines and quality standards. The mechanic will perform preventative maintenance on HVAC systems, including changing air filters, cleaning coils, and greasing bearings. They will also conduct maintenance on furnaces, boilers, and unit heaters, ensuring all systems operate efficiently and safely. The role is located at Millersville University of Pennsylvania, which emphasizes strong student-faculty relationships and a commitment to diversity and inclusion. Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance on HVAC systems, including changing air filters and cleaning coils.
  • Conduct inspections and repairs on refrigeration system components.
  • Respond to service calls and assess equipment to resolve occupant comfort issues.
  • Inspect and replace faulty or worn parts such as compressors and thermostats.
  • Assist higher-level tradespersons with complex maintenance tasks.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on furnaces, boilers, and unit heaters.
  • Recover and reclaim refrigerants for disposal in accordance with EPA regulations.
  • Conduct testing on water treatment systems and document findings.
  • Service and maintain air handling equipment and perform routine repairs.
  • Install basic ventilation or air conditioning units as needed.
  • Demonstrate maintenance tasks to trainees or other employees.
  • Read blueprints to identify components and locate equipment.
  • Access and monitor building automation systems necessary for maintenance duties.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in the maintenance, repair, or installation of HVAC or refrigeration systems, or completion of a four-year Vo-Tech training program in refrigeration, HVAC, or building automation with six months of experience.
  • Knowledge of mechanical aspects of HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret HVAC system blueprints and manufacturers manuals.
  • Must obtain EPA Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification types 1, 2, and 3 within six months of employment.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
