About the position

The Mechanical Project Engineer at EMCOR Construction Services Midwest (ECS) will support the design of mechanical and plumbing systems, primarily for educational and government projects. This role involves collaborating with a mechanical design team to implement energy conservation strategies and ensure the successful execution of MEP construction projects. The engineer will provide clarity through design and assist in delivering complete solutions alongside a Senior Project Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Perform load studies and envelope/operational analysis.
  • Conduct field investigations for systems, layouts, and drawings.
  • Size equipment using selection software and coordinate with vendors.
  • Generate HVAC and plumbing plans and perform drafting using AutoCAD.
  • Coordinate design with additional disciplines such as Architectural, Civil, Structural, and Fire Protection.
  • Develop and generate details and schedules.
  • Review submittals from contractors and suppliers.
  • Perform on-site installation inspections and attend construction meetings.
  • Conduct punch out and job close out activities.
  • Assist with building audits and analysis of existing systems.
  • Stay familiar with relevant codes and standards.
  • Assist in presentations and client interviews as needed.
  • Perform client sales calls and outings when warranted.
  • Attend and perform presentations and seminars to stay informed on current products and systems.
  • Engage with public and industry groups such as ASHRAE, USGBC, and AEE.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4+ years of experience in the HVACR industry with a Mechanical/HVAC Engineering background.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Word, Excel, and Trace 700.
  • Experience with other system design software is required.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Pro, Bluebeam, or similar programs is preferred.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a similar accredited Engineering Technology program is required.
  • Professional licensing or certifications are strongly encouraged but not required.
  • Ability to conceptualize and carry out the design of systems from beginning to final product.
  • Self-motivated, innovative, competent, responsible, proficient, and organized.
  • Personable and able to work well in a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Background in Design Build or Guaranteed Savings Projects is a plus.
  • Experience in engineering K-12 and public sector projects is a plus.
