About the position

The HVAC Technician/Energy Manager is responsible for performing maintenance and repairs on a variety of HVAC and refrigeration equipment. This role also involves monitoring energy use and utilities, implementing recycling and waste reduction strategies, and overseeing contractors to ensure proper performance of new equipment. The position requires effective communication skills to present technical information in public forums and is on call for HVAC emergencies, necessitating travel between work sites.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
  • Monitor energy use, utilities, recycling, and waste for all buildings.
  • Assist in the selection of new equipment or projects.
  • Oversee contractors to ensure proper performance of new equipment.
  • Speak in technical terms in public forums regarding HVAC systems and energy management.
  • Respond to HVAC emergencies as needed.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Seven years of working experience as an HVAC technician.
  • Licensed electrician in Washington State preferred.
  • Qualified to dispose, recover, and install refrigerants.
  • Working knowledge of Alerton Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems or similar Energy Management Control System (EMCS).
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, DX, VFD, Hydronic and Gas Heating and Cooling Systems, and basic refrigeration and electrical codes.
  • Ability to organize and set priorities while working independently or with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and ensure safe installations.
  • Willingness to complete advanced technical electricity and HVAC equipment operation and maintenance training courses.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, independent contractors, and vendors.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with computer software such as MS Word, Excel, and Visio.
  • Ability to read construction drawings and troubleshoot problems.
