About the position

The HVAC Technician is responsible for ensuring optimal service and comfort for employees, patrons, and the orchestra by maintaining, modifying, and repairing HVAC and plumbing systems. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including food and beverage staff, contractors, and engineers, to ensure compliance with health standards and efficient operation of systems. The technician will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and advise on capital projects while also maintaining life-safety systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform journeyman level work in the maintenance, modification, overhaul, installation, service, and repair of HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
  • Machine and fabricate parts as necessary.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all HVAC systems including air handling units, steam absorption chiller, cooling towers, and ancillary equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair HVAC and plumbing systems, including overhauling equipment when appropriate.
  • Advise Facility Engineer on technical aspects of capital projects and lead contractors in performing work.
  • Arrange for testing and balancing of air systems to ensure optimal ventilation and indoor air quality.
  • Monitor the Building Management System for optimal utility use and energy conservation.
  • Maintain life-safety systems such as fire sprinkler systems and emergency generators.
  • Perform general duties assigned to the House Crew, including event logistics and assisting other trades.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent; preference for advanced education such as an associate's degree or vocational certificate in HVAC and refrigeration.
  • Journeyman level license in HVAC and refrigeration.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in maintaining HVAC, refrigeration, and plumbing systems in a large institution.
  • Skilled in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and solving technical problems.
  • Experienced in machining and fabricating parts in a machine shop.
  • Familiar with operation of lathes, welding equipment, and milling machines.
  • Intermediate skill level with electrical wiring and principles.
  • Intermediate skill level in maintaining plumbing systems and pipefitting.
  • Strong customer service skills with experience in providing comfort to office occupants.
  • Experienced in working independently and exercising judgment in resource usage.
  • Sound technical writing skills for documenting maintenance steps and procedures.
  • Advanced ability in interpreting blueprints, technical manuals, and specifications.
  • Experience in meeting quality assurance standards.
