About the position

Truckee Meadows Community College is seeking a full-time Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) Specialist 1 to join our Facilities Operations team. This position is crucial in ensuring a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment for all individuals utilizing the TMCC facilities. The HVACR Specialist 1 will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, installation, and modification of various mechanical equipment, including HVAC/R systems, boilers, pumps, valves, and plumbing systems across the main campus and three satellite sites: Edison, Redfield (HSC), and Meadowood. The role requires a proactive approach to maintaining indoor air quality and ensuring that all mechanical systems operate efficiently and effectively. The HVACR Specialist 1 will work closely with other facilities staff to address any issues that arise, ensuring that all equipment is functioning properly and that any necessary repairs are completed in a timely manner. This position is designated as Essential Personnel, meaning that in the event of a campus emergency or special event, the specialist may be required to work outside of regular hours to maintain campus safety and building operations. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, but flexibility is required based on organizational needs. Candidates for this position must have completed a recognized HVACR apprenticeship program or possess an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid Class “C” Nevada driver's license or higher is required, and candidates must be prepared to undergo a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. The role also involves physical demands, including moving and lifting heavy objects, which is essential for the maintenance and repair tasks associated with HVACR systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, repair, installation, and modification of HVAC/R systems, boilers, pumps, valves, and plumbing systems.
• Ensure indoor air quality and efficient operation of mechanical systems across TMCC facilities.
• Collaborate with facilities staff to address mechanical issues and complete necessary repairs in a timely manner.
• Work outside of regular hours during campus emergencies or special events as required.
• Maintain compliance with safety regulations and standards in all maintenance activities.

Requirements

• Completion of a recognized HVACR apprenticeship program or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Class 'C' Nevada driver's license or higher at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
• Ability to move and lift heavy objects as required for maintenance tasks.
• Pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
