About the position

Broadcom CSG Group designs, fabricates, tests, and supports state-of-the-art network switches for internal and external customers. As a HW System Test Engineer, you will be responsible for board bring-up and debug activities for the PCBAs at each stage of the development cycle. This role requires you to work closely with other test engineers, system design engineers, and technicians to troubleshoot and report any issues observed in each prototype run. You will be involved in bringing up, testing, and debugging high-speed electronics and high power, low voltage power subsystems on complex PCBAs. Your responsibilities will include programming power ICs, clock generators, and non-volatile memories, checking clocks and voltage levels, and diagnosing and fixing any issues found. You will utilize Linux and associated software tools to check board functionality. Additionally, you may be involved in testing the Broadcom switch ASIC functionality, collaborating with many other Broadcom engineers in the process. The ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, is essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Perform bring-up testing involving powering up new boards stage by stage, including programming power, logic, and memory components
  • Troubleshooting and repairing failing circuits, including power and logic circuits
  • Reworking boards including soldering small components and working with outside contract manufacturers to replace large or high pin-count ICs
  • Collaborating with engineers both across Broadcom to resolve complex issues, including ASIC testing
  • Identify and report problems found, regardless of whether they are design, fabrication, or assembly issues
  • System testing using Linux and Windows PCs
  • Writing, editing, and reading test plans

Requirements

  • 5 or more years of experience as a test engineer
  • High speed digital circuit experience including use of high speed oscilloscopes, function generators, and time domain reflectometry (TDR)
  • Removal and soldering of low pin-count surface-mount components (e.g. passive components)
  • Read and comprehend schematics and component datasheets
  • Excellent soldering skills, especially with fine-pitch SMT components down to 0201
  • Ability to periodically move heavy equipment short distances (< 75 lb), and good hand-eye coordination
  • Familiarity with Linux operating system and software tools is desirable
  • 4-year Bachelor of Science in Engineering or 2-year degree/diploma in a technical discipline

Benefits

  • Medical, dental and vision plans
  • 401(K) participation including company matching
  • Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP)
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Company paid holidays
