About the position

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is seeking a dedicated Highway Maintenance Worker/Senior to join the striping crew in Norfolk, NE. This role involves operating heavy equipment, performing manual labor, and maintaining highways to ensure safe and efficient transportation for the public. The position offers opportunities for career advancement and is integral to the mission of enhancing the quality of life for Nebraskans through effective transportation services.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the paint crew striping highways.
  • Operate equipment such as loaders, trucks, tractors, mowers, and hand tools.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and assist with repairs.
  • Perform manual labor such as pothole patching, sign repair, erecting snow fences, and roadway, bridges & culvert repair.
  • Load and unload materials as needed.
  • Work long hours during emergencies such as flooding and storms.
  • Work in temperature extremes and be available for emergency call-outs.
  • Report to work for emergencies with short notice.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • For Senior position: Must possess a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with air brakes and tanker endorsements within 60 days of employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the operation of heavy equipment or farming background.
  • A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement.
  • Commercial Pesticide applicator's license.
  • Basic computer experience.
