About the position

The American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter position is a full-time role focused on providing accurate and impartial interpretation services between spoken English and ASL. The role is hybrid, requiring in-person attendance at school for only 30 days per school year, making it suitable for individuals seeking flexibility while contributing to an inclusive environment for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and impartial interpretation services from spoken English to American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa.
  • Interpret in diverse environments, including classrooms, meetings, conferences, and other events, ensuring clear communication between parties.
  • Work with individuals with varying levels of ASL proficiency.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) code of professional conduct.
  • Adapt interpretations to accommodate different signing styles and regional sign variations.
  • Clarify and explain concepts as needed, while maintaining the integrity of the message.
  • Assist in creating an inclusive and accessible environment for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.
  • Engage in professional development to stay updated on best practices in ASL interpreting and Deaf culture.
