About the position

As a (Hybrid) College Recruitment Specialist, you will play a crucial role in assisting the CCAM Associate Dean of Student Success & Enrollment in the recruitment and retention of students interested in careers within the School of Media & Communications. Your primary responsibilities will include developing and implementing effective recruitment strategies and communication plans in collaboration with CCAM administration, faculty, and staff. This role requires you to frequently update these plans to ensure they remain relevant and effective. Additionally, you will support recruitment efforts for the School of Art and Design, School of Theater & Dance, and the School of Music as needed, which may involve overnight travel and working on weekends and evenings. In this position, you will provide admissions information and services to prospective students, researching and identifying target populations for recruitment. You will develop visitation schedules and visit both in-state and out-of-state target schools, agencies, or conferences to engage with prospective students, teachers, and administrators. Representing the School of Media at various recruitment events, you will discuss program offerings with prospective students and their families, answering questions about curriculum, enrollment procedures, and student life. You will also disseminate timely information regarding admissions, housing, and financial aid applications to prospective and continuing students. Your role will involve planning and organizing on-campus recruitment programs, developing an annual recruitment plan in support of CCAM and WVU's objectives, and conducting research on enrollment trends to ensure the recruitment of high-quality students. You will collaborate with campus entities to obtain and share enrollment data with faculty and staff, assisting in the development of recruitment marketing materials and executing social media campaigns that align with CCAM goals. Furthermore, you will oversee a student ambassador program and coordinate summer Media Camps and K-12 workshops to build relationships with secondary schools. This position requires excellent communication skills, proficiency in social media, strong organizational abilities, and a commitment to customer service. You will supervise student workers and serve in various capacities regarding recruitment issues as requested by the Dean or Associate Dean of Student Success.

Responsibilities

  • Provide admissions information and services to prospective students.
  • Research and identify target populations for recruitment and develop visitation schedules.
  • Visit in-state and/or out-of-state target schools, agencies or conferences to meet with prospective students, teachers and administrators.
  • Represent the School of Media (CCAM) at college fairs and other WVU recruitment events.
  • Discuss School of Media (CCAM) program offerings to prospective students and parents and answer their questions.
  • Disseminate timely information via appropriate communication venues to prospective and/or continuing students.
  • Meet with prospective students and/or parent/guardians on an individual basis and provide on-site tours of School of Media (CCAM) facilities.
  • Plan and organize on-campus School of Media (CCAM) recruitment programs in conjunction with the Associate Dean of Student Success & Enrollment.
  • Develop and implement an annual recruitment plan in support of CCAM and WVU recruiting objectives and goals.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research on enrollment trends and patterns.
  • Work closely with campus entities to obtain enrollment and recruitment/admissions data and disseminate that data to administrators, faculty and staff.
  • Assist in developing recruitment marketing materials such as letters, brochures, emails, and social media communications.
  • Participate in University-sponsored recruitment and communication committee meetings.
  • Effectively correspond with all inquiring, admitted, and deposited students as part of a targeted communications strategy.
  • Develop and execute social media campaigns and projects that align with CCAM goals.
  • Capture video and photo content or work with videographers and designers to develop high-quality visual content.
  • Oversee a vibrant social media student group and build a network of content-creators.
  • Monitor trends in marketing and social media to strategize engagement opportunities.
  • Oversee a student ambassador program to assist with recruitment activities.
  • Oversee summer Media Camps for high school students.
  • Coordinate teacher workshops to build relationships with secondary schools.
  • Coordinate K-12 groups coming to campus for media-related workshops and learning opportunities.
  • Supervise student workers in support of program objectives.
  • Serve in other capacities regarding recruitment issues and events as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Journalism, Strategic communications (Advertising or PR) or another applied communications discipline.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in student admissions, advising, recruitment or retention.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience involving sales and/or customer service.
  • Familiarity with statistical concepts and analysis.
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in professional social media communications.
  • Strong organizational skills and a proven ability to work as a team member to accomplish unit goals.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, problem-solve, collaborate, and work independently.
  • Excellent computer skills (writing and databases).
  • Self-motivated and dedicated to fulfilling responsibilities.
  • Student-centered and people-oriented, enjoying working with diverse populations.
  • Exhibit a consistently positive attitude and be results-oriented with strong time management skills.
