Actalent is seeking a Hybrid Mechanical Engineer specializing in Plumbing and Fire Protection to join our team in New York. This position is primarily remote but requires on-site client visits in the tri-state area. The selected candidate will work under the supervision of the Design Standards Unit Manager and the Assistant Manager, focusing on the review of fire protection, fire alarm, and plumbing design documents for tenant projects (TAA) and design audits for Port Authority (PA) facilities. The role is crucial in ensuring compliance with applicable building codes and Port Authority technical standards. The responsibilities of the Mechanical Engineer include downloading electronic TAA submissions, previewing construction documents, performing hydraulic calculations, and reviewing specifications and reports for completeness with codes and standards. The engineer will also coordinate review comments from various technical disciplines and prepare memoranda to communicate these comments to the line departments. Additionally, the engineer will attend meetings with tenant architects and engineers of record to discuss review comments and resolve any issues that arise. Key tasks also involve assigning various technical disciplines for code review and maintaining communication with PA facilities to process TAA and design audit projects. The engineer will be responsible for the layout of plumbing and fire protection systems, equipment layout and sizing, and ensuring adherence to the International Mechanical Code, Plumbing Code, and Fire Code, as well as standards such as ASME B31.1 and NFPA 13 for sprinkler systems.
