About the position

The Program Manager for Community Engaged Learning at West Virginia University is responsible for promoting community engaged learning across the institution. This role involves developing collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, students, and community partners to create impactful programs that utilize engaged pedagogies. The position supports academic community engagement through service-learning and experiential learning, enhancing reciprocal learning and community impact.

Responsibilities

  • Assist faculty and staff with course/program construction and/or revision, data tracking, and establishing and sustaining community partnerships.
  • Develop seminars, workshops, and other professional development activities focused on community-engaged pedagogies and research.
  • Lead continuous quality improvement through program evaluation and attention to leading practices in community engaged scholarship.
  • Collect, analyze, and disseminate impact data/statistics from community engaged learning.
  • Assist faculty and staff with iServe trainings related to their community engaged practices.
  • Ensure community engagement initiatives prioritize equity, diversity, and inclusion by incorporating culturally responsive practices and addressing systemic barriers to engagement.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty and students from diverse academic departments to address complex community issues.
  • Work with the Community Partner Program Coordinator to support community partners with communications and logistics of project placements.
  • Serve as the instructional lead for the Service-Learning Teaching Assistantship (SLTA) program, including teaching one section of the SRVL 490 Teaching Practicum course each semester.
  • Coordinate the approval process for courses seeking special community engaged or service designation and facilitate the Faculty Advisory Committee's activities.
  • Pursue funding opportunities to support outreach efforts and enhance community engagement initiatives at WVU.
  • Develop communication strategies to promote the university's community engagement initiatives, including creating newsletters, social media campaigns, and press releases.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in teaching or instructing workshops and software systems.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in a higher education environment and community engagement.
  • Exhibit a high personal standard of excellence and be an effective team player.
