About the position

The Transportation Technician 2 position within the Office of Structural Engineering involves managing ODOT's snooper truck operations for bridge projects, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and assisting with bridge inspection quality assurance. The role requires both fieldwork and office tasks, including user management of the bridge inspection system and coordination of statewide operations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate ODOT's statewide snooper operations program.
  • Assist with statewide bridge inspection quality assurance, including field reviews.
  • Implement and control updated bridge inventory specifications of the National Bridge Inventory (SNBI).
  • Manage user access for ODOT's bridge inspection and inventory system, Assetwise.
  • Update and enforce ODOT's Snooper Operations Manual and analyze existing operations for improvements.
  • Serve as a liaison with equipment manufacturers and government agencies regarding snooper truck maintenance.
  • Analyze bids and recommend vendors for snooper truck procurement and maintenance.
  • Travel to inspect snooper trucks and inspection equipment for compliance with technical and safety requirements.
  • Utilize software to collect inspection data and optimize yearly operations schedule.
  • Provide support for ODOT's bridge inspection system, including account setup and troubleshooting.
  • Work with various agencies to ensure compliance with bridge inspection regulations.
  • Attend training sessions to stay updated on bridge inspection and safety developments.

Requirements

  • 7 years of training or experience in engineering-related technical experience in construction, rehabilitation, maintenance projects, or civil engineering design.
  • Completion of an associate degree program in engineering technology with 5 years of relevant experience.
  • 2 years of experience as Transportation Technician 1, with relevant experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior bridge inspection knowledge and training.
  • Familiarity with bridge nomenclature.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
